Trump International Hotel and Tower In 2008, Trump sued Deutsche Bank, lead lender on one of his massive building projects, for having the audacity to ask him to return a $40 million loan. Trump reasoned that the financial crisis activated a "force majeure" clause in their agreement (covering riots, floods, and other events outside the borrower's control). That clause, Trump argued, relieved him of his obligation to immediately pay back the sum he owed on the construction of the Trump International Hotel and Tower in Chicago. The real estate mogul insisted that the lenders should pay him $3 million for damaging his reputation and the project. The lawsuit was eventually settled out of court. |
