Nooyi Company: Pepsico Fortune 500 rank: 41 Though PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi has been criticized by some shareholders for focusing less on soda and more on healthy snacks, she remains steadfast in her fight for what she calls Performance with Purpose. "Corporate social responsibility is something you do in the evening and something that can be shut down if the CEO changes or you don't have the money. For us, purpose is not something you can shut down," Nooyi told Fortune executive editor Stephanie Mehta at the 2011 Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit. "Performance with purpose only means deliver great performance while keeping an eye to all of the stakeholders... If you weave purpose into the way you think about your performance, that's now part of the business model." |
