Cooking up profits

As any seasoned home cook knows, it's tough to keep track of recipes ripped out of magazines, printed out from websites or clipped from newspapers. That's where The Recipe Box iPad software, from Corpus Collusion, comes in.
Since its February release the app has gotten positive ink in the Boston Globe's food section, as well as the Wall Street Journal. This success would not be possible without the iPad, of course.
"When the iPad came out, my best friend didn't like the recipe software available and wondered if I'd help her make better software," said Corpus Collusion principal Kathy Tafel.
Tafel worked for Apple for almost a decade in marketing. All those long hours managing product launches and ad campaigns on Apple.com finally paid off.
"I think it's great that my partner and I are self-sufficient on income from the app after being in business for not even a year," she said. "Most businesses can't say that. We're bootstrapping ourselves, and are not exactly rolling in cash. But it also feels good to have made something without VC or angel investment."
