    10月份，美国联邦政府停止运转。星巴克CEO霍华德•舒尔茨拒绝在所有公司都受到不利影响时袖手旁观。他写了一封请愿书，号召各公司CEO上街游行，给国会施加压力，迫使后者通过预算案。

    舒尔茨在星巴克网站上发表了一封信，信中写道：“据我所知，一些公司领导人也对我们保持相对沉默以及我们代表民众要求政府首脑采取行动所产生的影响感到担心。”

    但舒尔茨没有停留在担心这一步。美国政府停摆期间，星巴克还在一些日子里为给他人买咖啡的顾客免单。舒尔茨希望此举能帮助人们“在期待民选官员为了国家利益团结起来的同时，彼此也能团结起来。”

    When the federal government shuttered in October, Starbucks (SBUX, Fortune 500)CEO Howard Schultz refused to sit on the sidelines while businesses everywhere suffered. Instead, Schultz wrote a petition calling on his peers to rally together and put pressure on Congress to come to an agreement.

    "I heard from several business leaders who shared their concern about our relative silence and impact in urging the political leadership to act on behalf of the citizenry," Schultz wrote in a letter on his company's website.

    But Schultz didn't stop there. The chief executive also offered free coffee for a few days during the shutdown to customers who bought someone else their drink. Schultz hoped the campaign would help people "connect with one another, even as we wait for our elected officials to do the same for our country."
