To truly lead at Gore (best known for its Gore-Tex fabrics), candidates must exhibit an ability to lead, or what the company calls “followership.” When the current CEO Terri L. Kelly was named, the company surveyed its top leaders and asked whom they would support as its next president. The company invites input from all corners of the organization when making similar decisions. Greasing the wheels of the process, each associate at the company is paired with a mentor known as a sponsor who serves as a coach, advocate and go-to resource. The sponsor is the first person to interact with new hires upon their arrival at the plant.
